Oscar Torrents
(one for Nick too)
"OscarTorrents is the Oscars as it should be -- everyone can download the year's nominations using the popular BitTorrent service, watch the movies, then use our rating system to choose their favourites. Why restrict the voting to a few bought-off jurors when the whole world can have their say?"

Mobile on-demand subsciption service for music
Unlimited mobile music for £1.99 a week
In what may prove to be the most far-reaching digital music launch since iTunes, Omnifone today took the wraps off its MusicStation service.
The service gives mobile phone users access to the big four labels' music catalogs on-demand for £1.99 (€2.99) a week, using a player that runs on mid-range feature phones and GPRS or EDGE networks, as well as high-end 3G phones - which Omnifone reckons gives it access to 70 per cent of the world's phone users. Indie content will follow, it's expected, as the indies are in the process of setting up their one-stop licensing arm Merlin, announced earlier this month.

Wists - social shopping
Wists, top web picks from for all. Wists, social shopping scrapbook, wishlist
Wists adds a social aspect to shopping, so you can share what your wishlist on your blog. But even more interestingly perhaps are these three websites that are part ofthe network:
1 - smashingtelly.com - which has a list of the best full length tv shows available on the internet.
2 - cribcandy.com - which is a list of all kinds of really interesting things you might want to buy for your house. Selected by people who seem to know what they are talking about. Because it's not all from shop there's less dross.
3 - popgloss.com - which is the same idea as cribcandy but for womens clothes.

Lend Money to the Developing World Life Goggles
Lend Money to the Developing World
Kiva is a non-profit site that allows you to lend money to someone in the developing world, empowering them to lift themselves out of poverty. Essentially you can “sponsor a business”. It works in 4 steps:
1. Lenders pick a business and make a loan using their credit card.
2. Kiva transfers funds to local partners. Partner disburses loans to each business.
3. Over time, partner collects repayments and provides business updates at Kiva.org.
4. Funds are returned to lender. Lender may withdraw or re-loan.

Steve Jobs - Thoughts on Music
An interesting article by Steve Jobs where he completely agrees with what I said on Doug's blog the other day (he just doesn't cite his references damn him!)
Apple - Thoughts on Music: "With the stunning global success of Apple’s iPod music player and iTunes online music store, some have called for Apple to “open” the digital rights management (DRM) system that Apple uses to protect its music against theft, so that music purchased from iTunes can be played on digital devices purchased from other companies, and protected music purchased from other online music stores can play on iPods. Let’s examine the current situation and how we got here, then look at three possible alternatives for the future."
